Male Breast Reduction – Gynecomastia
Male breast reduction or gynecomastia is a procedure to reduce the amount of breast tissue and excess skin for men that have developed large breast or/and unwanted shape and size.
More often its genetically inherited, or due to weight loss, weight gain together with medication or other substances.
The procedure is more often a combination of liposuction of the excess fat and cutting out the excess glandular tissue through a small areolar incision but in the majority of the cases only liposuction can acquire the desired result.
Incisions and technique
There are different procedures when performing a gynecomastia or male breast reduction, most of them, involves liposuction of the fat in the breast and removal of excess skin and tissue. The operating time is normally between 60 to 90 minutes and with local sedation.
IN/OUT Patient
Usually performed on an outpatient basis.
Recovery Period
A return to work, if not physically strenuous, is possible in a few days and after consultation with the doctor. Strenuous activity after 2 to 3 weeks and exercising after one month. It is normal with some swelling and bruising 3 to 6 months.
Risks
Fluid accumulation, infection and asymmetry. Pigmentation changes, which may become permanent if exposed to the sun. In cases where there is too much excess tissue there might be the need for a second procedure to remove more tissue after the skin has retracted.
Duration of results
Permanent.
